The duty-free mall's outdoor plaza in Sanya hosted a red-and-black, record-store-themed YSL Beauty pop-up through December 2021.

Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free City is a duty-free shopping complex in Sanya, Hainan, built around cosmetics, fragrance and luxury retail floors that serve both resident shoppers and visitors to the island. Its outdoor plaza functions as the complex's public forecourt: a hard-paved open area at the entrance where foot traffic passes between the street, the mall doors and the surrounding commercial blocks, and where temporary structures can stand without interrupting indoor retail.
For this project the plaza held a freestanding pavilion finished in red and black, its facade modelled on a 1970s record shop. Inside, the space worked as a compact retail and experience route: product displays, a check-in point where visitors received a fragrance travel spray, and a karaoke booth reserved for shoppers above a set spend, with photo keepsakes. Staff directed participants onward to the YSL counter on the mall's third floor.
The plaza sits on the route between the street and the mall's beauty floors, so a temporary structure here reaches shoppers before they enter and can hand them on to a permanent counter inside. The open forecourt accommodates a self-contained, sound-producing build — music, karaoke, photography — that would be harder to place within the retail halls.
