Prada Rong Zhai, a restored heritage mansion in Jing'an, Shanghai, hosted a themed 1990s experience staged across its rooms and garden.

Prada Rong Zhai is a restored early-twentieth-century mansion in Jing'an, Shanghai, formerly the residence of the Rong family. Its rooms, stair halls, decorated ceilings and walled garden are maintained as a heritage building, and it is used for Prada's cultural exhibitions and static presentations rather than for retail. Visitors move room by room rather than across open floor plates.
The mansion's rooms held themed sets — a record shop, photographic studio, flower stall and games arcade — while the garden carried an open-air cinema and street market. Circulation followed the house's existing sequence of rooms, so visitors passed through small, domestic-scale units. Modular removable fittings and lightweight displays were kept off historic surfaces, with 2026 holiday pieces placed inside the sets.
Rooms of domestic scale suit small sequential sets better than open halls, and the heritage interiors supply an atmosphere a temporary build cannot. The walled garden allows larger evening programming. Because the house already operates as a cultural venue, visitors accept timed entry, queuing and photography, and the building itself carries recognition.
