The venue

Shanghai Exhibition Centre is a purpose-built exhibition complex in central Shanghai, organised around large halls including the West Wing. The venue is normally used for exhibitions, fairs and cultural programmes, and its halls provide enclosed, flexible interior space for staged events. The West Wing sits within the wider complex, giving the event a central-city address and a formal architectural setting.

How the space was used

For this project, the West Wing was arranged for a literary salon programme rather than a product display. The event centred on a series of conversations about girlhood, love and education, drawing on works by Simone de Beauvoir, Fumiko Enchi and Eileen Chang. Seating and a talk setting supported the format; specific zone layouts and capacities are not verified.

Why it works here

The venue’s central location and enclosed halls suit talk-based cultural programming that needs a controlled interior and a recognisable civic address. An exhibition centre can hold salon-style conversations without retail pressure, while the West Wing gives the event a discrete room within a larger complex.
