Yuyuan Garden in Nanjing hosted LOEWE's New Year lantern installation, with light works dispersed through the classical garden and a nightly projection on its lake.

Yuyuan Garden is a restored classical Jiangnan garden in Nanjing's old city, laid out around a lake with rockeries, corridors, gates and timber halls. Also known as the Hu Family Garden, it is normally visited as a quiet heritage walk, its paths turning between courtyards and water. Its scale suits slow, dispersed viewing rather than dense crowds.
The garden was used as a canvas for scattered light works rather than a single build. A large blue-green cube lightbox with red paper-cut graphics marked the entrance; abstract coloured landscape forms and small deer and frog figures were placed along the paths and around the lake. From 5pm to 7pm an animation was projected onto a water screen on the lake.
Heritage gardens hold attention through sequence and surprise: walls, gates and water delay each view, so dispersed installations read as discoveries rather than a single show. The setting also filters traffic, since visitors already move slowly and quietly, which suits delicate light pieces and keeps the surrounding old-city lanes calm in the evening.
