Jing'an Kerry Centre's garden plaza hosted a Lantern Festival-season installation of animated animal lanterns and a central illuminated figure.

Jing'an Kerry Centre is a mixed-use complex in Shanghai's Jing'an district, combining a retail podium, office towers and an open garden plaza at ground level. The plaza functions as a passage between the mall entrances and the surrounding street frontage, used for public seating, seasonal decoration and pedestrian circulation rather than as an enclosed exhibition room.
The garden plaza was treated as the base of the installation. A central piece showed a small horse mid-leap from a book, while lantern figures of a pony, deer and platypus were suspended along the street edge, appearing to rise from planting beds. A landscape backdrop and programmed LED lighting produced shifting light and shade across the hand-painted surfaces.
Open-air plazas at busy retail complexes carry steady foot traffic and are already read as seasonal display space, so an installation can sit in the path of passers-by without ticketing or queueing. The planting beds and street frontage give lanterns a natural setting for a walk-through reading.
