The venue

Taikoo Li Sanlitun is an open-air retail district in Beijing's Sanlitun area, Chaoyang District, laid out as a network of pedestrian lanes between low-rise buildings rather than a single enclosed mall. Its South Area holds a dense run of street-level storefronts, small plazas and passageways that shoppers move through on foot, with open paved pockets between buildings that can be closed off for temporary structures.

How the space was used

For this project the South Area's open ground was given over to a temporary Dior build organised around the Tuileries Garden motif named in the project title. Planting, garden-style edges and a walk-through interior replaced the usual open paving, so visitors entered from the lane, passed through the constructed garden sequence and exited back into the district's circulation. Detailed zones and dimensions are not verified.

Why it works here

Open-air districts of this kind work for garden-themed pop-ups because the paving between buildings reads as public ground: passersby can see planting and structures from the lane, enter without a mall threshold, and rejoin the shopping route afterwards. The low-rise scale also keeps a temporary garden from being dwarfed by surrounding towers.
