The central atrium of Shanghai IFC Mall hosted a limited-time Dior boutique presenting Jonathan Anderson's first collection for the house.

Shanghai IFC Mall sits in Lujiazui, Pudong, within a complex of towers above the Lujiazui metro interchange. The mall runs over several retail levels, with luxury tenants concentrated on the lower floors and a central atrium acting as the main vertical and horizontal circulation hub. Escalators and lift lobbies feed into this open volume, which is overlooked by surrounding shopfronts and corridors. The atrium is normally circulation space, cleared for seasonal installations.
For the project, a freestanding boutique structure was installed within the atrium rather than inside a permanent unit. The pavilion formed a defined retail volume with display surfaces and product presentation areas, read from the surrounding corridors and escalators. Shoppers moved around its perimeter before entering, so the mall's through-traffic doubled as an audience for the display space.
The atrium is the one place in the mall where a brand can occupy floor area without a lease and be seen from multiple levels at once. Its position on the Lujiazui circulation route brings office workers, tourists and shoppers past the installation, making a short-run boutique viable for a limited calendar window.
