Hengshan 8, a heritage villa compound in Shanghai, hosted Chanel’s Bleu de Chanel Édition Rare pop-up across three floors.

Hengshan 8 is a heritage villa compound on Hengshan Road in Shanghai’s former French Concession, set along a plane-tree-lined street. The site consists of old villa buildings and courtyards within the compound, adapted for cultural and commercial events. For this project, the venue included a three-storey house whose residential-scale rooms and staircases shaped a sequential visitor route.
The route began on the ground floor with a 360-degree screen showing a New Caledonian coastline sunset and a path laid with sandalwood pieces. The first floor held an interactive scent station with a handle-released mist, molecular graphics and glass columns containing raw materials. The basement was a dark cinema screening a conversation film, with low-frequency seat vibration and sandalwood scent. Visitors moved upward through timed entry and collected stamps on all three levels.
The villa setting gives a fragrance launch domestic-scale rooms and a controlled sequence rather than an open retail floor. Its historic architecture and plane-tree streetscape connect with the brand’s French references and Shanghai’s own modern history. The three levels let the project separate spectacle, interaction and cinema while keeping visitors on one directed path.
