Hangzhou MixC’s L1 atrium hosted Chanel’s Coco Crush Hotel, an appointment-based pop-up built as jewellery rooms and a photo-booth elevator.

Hangzhou MixC is a shopping mall in Hangzhou, and this project occupied its L1 atrium, a central indoor space used for circulation, displays and public events. The atrium sits within the mall’s main retail levels, connecting shoppers moving between stores and entrances. As a venue, it is an open, high-visibility indoor area rather than a dedicated gallery, so installations must work within an existing commercial setting.
For the project, the L1 atrium was built out as COCO CRUSH HOTEL, with suite-like rooms and public-space zones modelled on a hotel. Quilted walls, burgundy carpets and sofas defined the interiors, while a marked CHANEL elevator served as an interactive photo booth. Entry was by advance reservation, and visitors moved through rooms to view Coco Crush pieces.
A mall atrium brings steady foot traffic and an audience already moving between retail spaces. The enclosed, appointment-led hotel concept gives that open setting a controlled interior, letting a jewellery brand create intimacy without leaving the shopping floor. The contrast between public circulation and private rooms supports browsing, photography and repeat visits.
