Burberry at TX Huaihai — Burberry Community Anniversary Blurring (2021)

TX Huaihai's fourth-floor neXtlab and outdoor plaza hosted Burberry's community anniversary exhibition, showing works by young creatives plus a large outdoor installation.

The venue

TX Huaihai is a retail building on Huaihai Middle Road in Shanghai's Huangpu district, positioned around youth fashion, streetwear and new culture rather than conventional luxury retail. Its upper floors hold flexible event and programming space; the fourth-floor neXtlab is a flat, enclosed exhibition room used for rotating programming. At street level the building opens onto an outdoor plaza that faces the road and carries passing foot traffic.

How the space was used

The exhibition ran in two parts. Inside neXtlab, the room was divided into named zones — an entrance, a Reconstructed Garden, a variation area and a section titled My Balance — carrying artworks produced with contributors to the Burberry community. Outside, the plaza held a large installation made with visual artist Shane Fu, visible from the street and drawing passers-by toward the fourth floor.

Why it works here

TX Huaihai's visitor base skews young and culture-led, so a community-driven art exhibition reads as consistent with the building's own programme rather than as inserted advertising. The split between street-facing plaza and enclosed upper floor lets a single project work as public signal and as a quieter gallery visit.
